SAQQARA
Mastaba of Kagemni

Kagemni was the overseer of the prophets and the estate of Teti's pyramid. He was also married to the daughter of Pharaoh Teti, Nebti-nubkhet. His mastaba can be compared to Mereruka's, but it is smaller and the present condition of the wall decorations are worse. But the reliefs of birds and animals are among the finest you can find from this period of ancient Egyptian history
As usual with this type of mastaba, there are everyday scenes often including the owner of the mastaba. Note that Kagemni is presented as a obese figure.
Kagemni's mastaba has one distinct and interesting element; boat pits on the roof. This is both an unusual position of boat pits as well as unusual for a mastaba to be adorned with this.
The burial chamber of Kagemni was decorated with offering texts. His sarcophagus and canopic jars were found here together with a few other funerary items, and can be seen in the National Museum in Cairo.
