LUXOR / KARNAK
Temple of Amon. Sacred Lake

A sacred lake was central to most temples of ancient Egypt. The one next to the Temple of Amon is among the larger ones, and it is predominantly well-preserved.
The sacred lake was used for a daily ritual, where a goose was set free on the lake at sunrise. They believed that the goose had laid a cosmic egg at Creation. The goose at Karnak was identified with Amon.
