Ruler of Assyria briefly in 626 BCE, perhaps a full year, and controlling only a part of the empire. He was son of long-time king Ashurbanipal, and twin brother of preceding king Ashur-etil-ilani, and made a claim on the throne for himself. Other sources suggest that he was not of the royal family, merely a general in the army usurping the throne. He was removed from power, or killed, and succeeded by his younger brother, Sin-shar-ishkun.
