In Mesopotamian religions, god residing in the underworld, that either was identical or close to the death god, Nergal. It is possible that he was a tree god. Meslamtaea was city god of Cuthah, and to him is attributed the same temple as Nergal, the Emeslam. Meslamtaea was son of Enlil and Ninlil.
